At Relay EMS, we take pride in assisting our clients with their emergency preparedness. Recently, we had the opportunity to support one of our clients during their rescue and evacuation drill, which involved two scenarios designed to test their emergency response plans.
Scenario 1: Confined Space Rescue
In the first scenario, an employee collapsed while working in a confined space, requiring immediate medical treatment and extraction. Our medical team provided the necessary medical assistance, stabilising the patient within the confined space. Simultaneously, another team member set up a rope system to create a mechanical advantage crucial for safely extracting the patient. Once the patient was stabilised and secured on a sked, they were carefully extracted from the confined space. The patient was transferred to the ambulance for further medical care and transported to a nearby medical facility.
Scenario 2: Working at Heights Rescue
The second scenario involved an employee who was working at heights and became unconscious after hitting their head, leaving them hanging from the scaffolding. The client had an onsite Cherry Picker, which was effectively used to rescue the employee and bring them safely to the ground. Once on the ground, the Relay EMS medical team provided immediate medical assistance before transporting the patient to a medical facility for further care.
The Importance of Company Drills
These drills are not just exercises but are vital for ensuring that companies can effectively respond to real emergencies. By conducting regular drills, companies can:
- Test their emergency plans and identify any weaknesses.
- Provide training for their employees, ensuring everyone knows their roles in an emergency.
- Reduce response times by practising coordinated actions.
- Improve communication between all parties involved.
- Evaluate their equipment and resources to ensure they are ready for use.
- Comply with safety standards and promoting a safety culture.
Relay EMS is committed to helping companies meet these essential safety requirements.
